Zeus | Great Dane | Bakersfield, California
Meet Zeus! Zeus is a Great Dane from Bakersfield, California. He’ll be joining us for our Two Week Board and Train Program because he struggles with leash manners, overall obedience, and manners in public environments. In public he can get easily distracted and it’s hard to snap him out of whatever he’s focused on. His family struggles with taking him to public places because he pulls and drags them everywhere. At home he is a great family dog, he loves his family and loves to play ball! Over the next two weeks we will create a well balanced foundation of obedience for Zeus to enjoy back home with his family. Check daily for his progress !

- Training Summary: Today we trained over at a local park. Zeus was around minor distractions today. We introduced all 5 commands (heel, sit, down, come, place). He has some trouble with the place command. I tried weighing him and he just wasn’t liking the scale. At first he was very nervous and shy performing the commands. Throughout training he gained some confidence through routine. I was able to get him in and out of the crate multiple times today, good job Zeus! Not bad for the first day!

- Training Summary: Today at the park we reinforced all commands with leash guidance and introduced the e collar. With leash guidance he is performing all commands except for place. He struggles with getting onto new elevated surfaces. For example he doesn’t like to get onto the scale to weigh himself. We will continue to sensitize him to different textured surfaces. We were around dogs today and for the most part he did well. I noticed he can become fixated on dogs and is selective on who he gives a reaction too. Going in and out of the crate is becoming a lot easier to do!

- Training Summary: As we continue with our training we continue to challenge Zeus. Today we headed to the skate park where he was super fascinated by everyone skating. At first he was super fixated. He became a bit more confident in his environment once we worked through it. His heel is improving, he is on my left side closest to my hip and is obedient to walking on a leash.

- Training Summary: Today we headed over to Balboa Lake. It was a beautiful day lots of people were out and so were their dogs. With a more challenging environment, he was able to perform and extend his commands. I noticed when he’s in new environments he can be a bit frightened. Once we work him through the fear of being in a new environment, he is more confident and is more susceptible of performing his commands.

- Training Summary: We continue to put Zeus in challenging scenarios. Today he was expected to hold an extended command with dog distractions. New dogs bring out the curiosity in Zeus. He wants to meet every dog who passes him. We worked him through that excitement and he was able to stay put, completely disregarding the other dogs. He held an extended down around two new dogs! I’ve noticed he has a greater appetite post morning training. He eats all his food when we get back home from our morning sessions.

- Training Summary: It was a hot day today so we went to train indoors at Home Depot. Zeus was excited to see so many people. We worked around different parts of the store and eventually made our way to the front where there were multiple distractions. Once he adjusted to the environment he was more comfortable in an extended down. I was able to drop the leash and walk around him. His heel was great throughout the store. Tomorrow we will challenge him with more human distractions, stay tuned!

- Training Summary: Over at the Santa Monica Beach we practiced all commands off leash with distractions. Another challenge thrown at Zeus and he conquered it! At first he was afraid of the cyclists who passed him by when on heel. As we worked him through it, he became more confident and calm in this new environment. He loves the beach! He got so much love from the people! Great job today Zeus!

- Training Summary: Over at the beach we continue to expose Zeus to high intense environments. He was around tons of distractions like loud music, bikes, skateboards, dogs, and large groups of people. He handled it better for his second time at the gym. Whenever he arrives at a new environment it can be shocking to him at first. The more you desensitize him to these environments the more confidence he will gain and the more cool places he’ll be able to visit!
