Behavior Work

Aggression and reactivity are not the same problem

A reactive dog overreacts to something. An aggressive dog intends to do damage. They look similar on a walk and they need different handling, which is why this program starts with a consultation rather than a package. From there your dog works one-on-one with our behavior team: obedience first, so there is a way to interrupt and redirect, then structured desensitization around the triggers that set your dog off. Be careful of anyone promising to erase serious aggression. What good work gives you is control and a plan you can actually run at home. Prices for every program are on the plans and pricing page.

How We Work

What the aggression program covers

Consultation first

We start by working out what your dog is actually doing and why, before anyone quotes you a program.

Obedience foundation

Core commands come first. Without a way to redirect your dog, there is nothing to fall back on.

Structured desensitization

Controlled exposure to the triggers, at a distance your dog can handle, closing the gap over time.

One-on-one with the behavior team

This work is not run in a group. Your dog trains with our most experienced trainers.

Handling you can repeat

A turnover session covering exactly how to manage your dog in the situations that used to go wrong.

Programs

Programs for aggression and reactivity

The three-week program is priced by the level of aggression, between $4,200 and $5,000, and that is settled at the consultation. Payment plans are available, so call us today to talk through options.

What Bakersfield dog owners say

“She was extremely aggressive and turning into a dog I didn’t even recognize. After training she is back to her old self and more improved. We went from not being able to take a walk to having a peaceful day at the beach with tons of people and other dogs with zero issues.”

Victoria WinterVerified Google review

“Miguel did a great job with my Malinois Mac who previously like to bite people who got to close to his family. He’s much calmer. We can trust our dog around strangers and out in public.”

Flynn ONeillVerified Google review

“My dog was very young and already showing signs of aggression, biting us and starting to ruin our lives! With the private class package Jesse & Miguel taught me how to train my own dog and get her to respond to me.”

Aggression and reactivity questions

What is the difference between aggression and reactivity?

Reactivity is commonly confused with aggression. A reactive dog overreacts to certain things or situations, often out of frustration or fear. Aggression is intent to do harm. The consultation is where we work out which one you are dealing with, because the training plan is different.

Can you fix my dog’s aggression completely?

We will not tell you a serious behavior problem disappears. What this program gives you is control, a much better managed dog, and a clear plan for handling the situations that used to go badly. That is the honest answer, and it is the same one on our pricing page.

Why does the price vary?

The three-week program runs from $4,200 to $5,000 depending on the level of aggression, because a dog with severe bite history takes a very different amount of work from a leash-reactive dog. We settle the number at the consultation, before you commit.

My dog is reactive but has never bitten. Do I need this program?

Not necessarily. Plenty of reactive dogs do well in a standard 2-week board and train, where the obedience foundation and the distraction work together take a lot of the heat out of it. Call us and describe the behavior and we will tell you which way to go.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Payment plans are available. Call us today to learn more about payment options.
