Off Leash K9 Training is the highest-rated dog training company serving Tehachapi and the Tehachapi Mountains.
Tehachapi, Golden Hills, Stallion Springs, Bear Valley Springs — dogs up here spend real time outdoors, on acreage and on mountain trails, and that is exactly where obedience gets tested. Our board and train programs and private obedience lessons run from our Bakersfield facility, about forty-five minutes west down Highway 58. We also run rattlesnake avoidance training, which matters more here than it does down in the valley. Every program and price is on our plans and pricing page.
Why professional training is essential for Tehachapi dog owners
Behavior modification
Address jumping, pulling, barking, anxiety, and reactivity at the root, not just the symptom.
Safety & control
A dog that listens the first time is a safer dog around traffic, livestock, wildlife, and people.
Stronger bond
Clear communication builds trust, so your dog looks to you for direction instead of guessing.
Skills that transfer
We hand the training over to you at pickup, so the obedience keeps working at home.
Family harmony
A calm, well-mannered dog means a calmer home for kids, guests, and other pets alike.
Our dog training programs for Tehachapi dogs
Every program runs out of our Bakersfield facility, by appointment. Here is how they break down.
Obedience lessons
Private, one-on-one sessions with a professional trainer. You are in the room for all of it, so the training goes home with you.

- Loose-leash walking and manners
- Reward-based marker track for young dogs
Board & train
Our signature immersive program. Your dog stays and trains with a trainer, then you get a turnover session before they come home.
- One, two and three-week stays
- Off-leash reliability around distractions
- Owner turnover session at pickup
Specialized programs
Focused help for the problems a general obedience program does not solve on its own.
- Aggression and reactivity
- Puppy foundations from 12 weeks
- Rattlesnake avoidance training

Built for how Tehachapi dogs actually live
A dog that lives in the Tehachapi Mountains needs a recall that works, and needs it more than a city dog does. Open ground, wildlife, livestock, neighbors with acreage, and a rattlesnake season that is not theoretical.
So the training is aimed at that. Recall that holds when a jackrabbit breaks cover on the Nuooah Nature Trail at Tehachapi Mountain Park. Leash manners good enough for a walk around Brite Lake on a busy weekend. A dog that stays put at the gate instead of following a car down the drive. Off-leash reliability comes through the immersive board and train programs rather than through lessons.
Rattlesnake avoidance is worth its own mention. It is a conditioning program, not an obedience command — we teach the dog to recognize a snake and get away from it on its own, which is the only thing that helps when you are not standing right there.
Where your dog will shine
- Tehachapi Mountain Park and the Nuooah Nature Trail
- Brite Lake Recreational Park
- Downtown Tehachapi
- Acreage in Stallion Springs and Bear Valley Springs
- Rattlesnake country in the foothills
Owner Jesse Medina graduated with honors from ABC College, then volunteered and later worked full time at Cesar Millan's Dog Psychology Center in Santa Clarita, where he taught socialization, basic obedience, search and rescue, and sheep herding. He has also volunteered with Marley's Mutts Pawsitive Change Prison Program, which pairs shelter dogs with inmates in California state prisons.
He runs the Bakersfield facility today, and he or one of his trainers is the person you will actually meet at your consultation.

Frequently asked questions
How far is your facility from Tehachapi?
Our facility is at 1450 Olive Dr A in Bakersfield, about forty-five minutes west on Highway 58. Board and train clients drive down once to drop off and once to pick up.
Do you come out to Tehachapi for in-home training?
No. We are a facility, by appointment — training happens at our Bakersfield location. The consultation beforehand is over the phone, so there is no wasted drive.
Is rattlesnake avoidance training worth it up here?
That is a call only you can make, but the foothills around Tehachapi are snake country and dogs on acreage cover a lot of it. Our snake avoidance foundations program is a conditioning session plus a follow-up proofing session, with an optional refresher before snake season each year.
How young can my puppy start?
Twelve weeks, as long as the puppy has had two sets of vaccines. That early work is marker training and socialization — our puppy programs lay it out. E-collar obedience is a separate stage and does not begin before five months of age.
Can you help with an aggressive or reactive dog?
Yes. We run a dedicated aggressive dog training program. Dogs on acreage often have a territorial or fence-line component to their reactivity, so tell us what the property looks like when we talk — it changes the plan.
