Goose | Shepherd Mix | Bakersfield, CA

OffLeash NorCal welcomes, Goose. Goose is a five-year-old shepherd mix who is staying with us for our two week board and train program. Goose understands the basics of commands and has pretty good house manners, but outside come challenges. Goose often likes to take on the role of being more dominant than her labrador brother Hubble. Those will be learning how to be better socialized with all the dogs and people during our program as well as having manners and obedience regardless of where she is.

Goose currently weighs 55.28

Goose learned to follow me today. Her obedience within my home is pretty good in comparison to the park where she was very nervous. We did have some trouble getting into the crate but overall today went well. She ate about 2/3 of her food

pupdate #3

Goose is going potty normally and is still fairly picky with her food, hopefully getting her on a routine helps. She did scratch me quite a bit while working outside but it all has to do with her nervousness. The crate entrance from both the car and at home was much more successful today!

pupdate #4

Goose did better at the park today and was able to complete a little longer of her heel command without wanting to jump on me. We worked around many cars passing as well as people and other dogs.

We worked on place and goose grasped the concept very quickly. I have lots of confidence in her and she sure is building hers up also, i am comfortably able to walk away from any area i put her in. She also did great around new puppies she has never met

Pupdate # 6

Goose weighed in today at 55.17, her weight has been pretty consistent. Her food intake is pretty much the same but she is gaining more of an appetite, she does better during dinner time. We practiced all commands at home today and she did great. The heel has been the biggest struggle but she is not jumping on me as much, id say it’s about 85% managed up to this point.

Park work has been going pretty smoothly, Goose pretty much has her jumping under control now but must continue to be managed when going back home, just like all commands. While the pups were going potty, Goose squared off with an submissive female dog and growled at her as she tried to hover over her. This is the most i’ve seen from her dog aggression, over the past week I had to make sure i was keeping her moving before she had the opportunity to intimidate another dog. I will continue to work on managing this.

Goose worked on all commands today but we emphasized holding commands near distractions in order to challenge her. She quickly realized that jumping on people doesn’t stop the training from happening, it makes us wants to work more until she is focused on doing the correct commands. The new park allowed her to be challenged but was open enough to give her space from everything. Both Hubble and Goose continue to have a normal appetite and go potty normally.

pupdate #11

Goose did a great job today practicing her food manners. She was able to sit next to her bowl of food and control herself from eating it. Her patience was put to the test yet she still remained calm!

Summary:

Goose is gaining more confidence in the correct way and is learning to calm her mind regardless of where we are. Practicing all commands on leash in public has made a huge difference in ensuring that she’ll be ready to go out in public once she’s back home with you. I will continue to challenge her by adding higher level distractions. She did great at this park that had lots of kids and dogs. Her recall is also going very well and off leash commands at home are coming along perfectly with and without the E collar.

pupdate #13

Goose practiced her patience skills today at an outdoor mall. She sat and remained in her place until she was told otherwise. She remained calm even with the outdoor distractions.
