Dolly | Labrador Retriever | Bakersfield, Ca

Hello everyone! Please welcome Dolly, the one year old Labrador Retriever, to OffleashNorcal. Dolly is here on a two week rehabilitation boarding program, in order to help her learn better manners and teach her how to be kind towards smaller dogs. Dollys owner expressed to us that she had already attacked three little dogs, one being her favorite dog friend at home. Dolly is adjusting to her new environment just fine! She is a very happy and intelligent dog. Dolly is already learning how to complete most of her commands, but understandably is still struggling to work past human and dog distractions. One other thing dolly struggles with is holding her urine in while she’s in the kennel. We have already had to clean up two accidents by her over night and taken her to get a bath at our expense. Unfortunately if she happens to urinate in the kennel again we must charge an additional clean up fee for her owner. In the mean time will be focusing heavily on building Dollys confidence along with the trust in her trainer in order for her to learn how to have more fun with the training. Please stay tuned to watch Dolly’s progress over the course of her two week board and train journey!

Today Dolly has proven that she is already making a lot of progress! She is getting a lot better at holding extended commands such as sit and down even around some small distractions. Unfortunately she did showcase come of her aggressiveness towards smaller dogs as she tried to lunge at one in front of the salon. Fortunately I was able to maintain control over her and was able to lower her energy level back down for us to successfully complete a training session!

Today we had an incredible day at the Valley plaza Mall! Dolly showcased an excellent job at performing all of her commands in the heel position. One thing I’ve noticed her struggle with is withholding from her playful impulses when approached by people. I am now focusing on building Dolly’s focus on her handler and completing extended commands, such as sit, down and place.

Since Dolly’s last training session went pretty good in the mall last time, i’ve decided that it was a right time to allow her to take another step forward and work on her greeting manners. Dolly is doing a great job learning how to be gentle with children and not jump on them anymore. We are all very proud of Dolly’s amazing achievements throughout her board and train program, and excited to see her perform in her final test at the Mall with us!
