Wanda | Great Dane | Hawthorne, California
Hi I’m Wanda, the seven month old Great Dane! I will be joining Off Leash Norcal’s Two Week Board and Train Program, with my trainer Anthony! My owners brought me to improve my leash manners, overall obedience, and to be socialized to public environments. I’m a strong girl and I pull my owners on leash every time we go out for walks. I recently began the habit of growling at any person that comes near my owners in public environments. I come from a loving family and I love them too! Check daily to see my amazing transformation!

Training Summary: Today was a great time getting to know Wanda fully! She is super sweet and is really eager to learn. She is loving her walks! We were able to go to the park and enjoy the sun. As an introduction we simply used leash guidance, to guide her into the five commands (heel, sit down, come. and place). Leash pressure is only used to guide her into the command, once she’s on command then all pressure is released. Great first day Wanda!

Training Summary: Today at the park we got to reinforce all commands! She’s improved so much in her heel! She can be skittish when dogs bark at her when we go on walkthrough my neighborhood. She can be shy when meeting other dogs. She is extending her sit for a much longer duration of time. She is drinking water regularly and always takes care of her meals!

Training Summary: Wanda did really well meeting the rest of the pack today. When she first got here she was super timid and was evading them. Today she was able to hold a sit command and meet them all! Meeting new dogs for the first time can really make or break the way she views the dogs. For example only expose her to dogs you trust, dogs who show calm behavior. She can be timid when other dogs bark at her, forcing her to get worked up. By creating a positive experience, this allows Wanda to wanna meet my dogs again and ultimately be part of their pack! Great work Wanda!

Training Summary: Wanda can get really spooked out by neighbors dogs when we go on neighborhood walks. The dog is a small poodle who barks at anything that passes it’s way. She acts skittish and wants to evade the situation. She has improved so much on her heel. On my left side she is always wagging her tail and excited to to continue her heel! I love her energy, she is always so excited to train!

Training Summary: Wanda and I took a trip to Lowe’s today. After we dd some training we were able to go shop around. She is really skittish of strangers walking along side her. She starts off with lots of nervous energy. As we work through it, she is less reactive too noises and is on a controlled heel. Not too bad for her first visit, we’ll try it again and make it better!

Training Summary: Today we went to train over at Pan Pacific Park. Its a really busy park in the city with lots of car noises, people walking back and forth, traffic, and dogs! We finally attempted off leash heel! We can definitely do better but she stayed on my left side and followed through with commands. Most importantly her tail was wagging and she was enjoying herself! She’s improved in extending all her commands. I can drop the leash and walks away for a few.

Training Summary: Today was a really nice sunny day at the beach. Wanda is really skittish of bike paths. She will refuse to walk near it, whenever there are bikes going through. We are teaching her that as long as she stays on my left side, I will always protect her. As we began to work more that session she over came that fear and isn’t really giving the bikes the attention she used to before. GOOD WORK WANDA!

Training Summary: When exposing Wanda to a new surface it’s important to create multiple reps to build that confidence. She is super smart and was catching onto the commands super fast! She does well in a Lowe’s environment but can be freaked out by moving fork lifts. She is eating all of her food and drinking water regularly!

Training Summary: Wanda loves her training bud, Kaya the Siberian Husky. When they first met they we’re really unsure of each other. They would bark at each other from a distance and avoid each other. No look at them now! Keep up the great work Wanda!
