Sammie | German Shepherd | Lancaster, California

Hi everybody my name is Sammie! I am a German Shepherd and I will be joining my trainer, Anthony for a two week board and train program. My parents brought me here because I struggle with walking on a leash, am very anxious, and need improvements on my basic commands. My owners struggle to walk me on leash because I pull a ton! When in public I get easily distracted and pull my owners to explore the environment. Over the next two weeks, my trainer and I will create a well balanced foundation of obedience for me to enjoy back home with my family. Check daily for progressive progress!

Training Summary: Today we started on the right foot! She is understanding what leash pressure is. Leash pressure is only used when guiding her into a command or turning left/right. Once she’s on command, all pressure is released. I mark her good behavior by saying “good sit/down/heel” or by simply petting her. She can be really anxious at the start but with proper exercise and mental stimulation we are able to get through it! Great first day Sammie!

Training Summary: Much better effort from Sammie today. She was a bit reactive on our walk through the neighborhood, with other dogs. She is understanding leash pressure and that pressure is released when on command. Keep up the good work girl!

Training Summary: Sammie got to meet my dogs and train around a dog distraction. If a dog is calm then Sammie become calm. If another dog is barking at her, that energy is reflected on Sammie and it isn’t a good idea for them to meet. She was excited to be around my dogs but didn’t act in a destructive manner. She is understanding there is a time and place for certain behaviors!

Training Summary: Great improvements from Sammie today. It was her first time at the mall. Not too many people there, but just enough for her to be exposed to human distractions. At first she was very anxious and overly excited. She got to work through that mental block and was able to extend her sit and down command! She is doing a lot better with her heel. We can enjoy the walk without her pulling towards everything she sees. She continues to make progress daily!

Training Summary: Today we took our training to Hollywood Blvd! It wasn’t her favorite place to visit, as she was a bit anxious with the amounts of people and the new noises. Towards the end she was more susceptible of performing commands, as she was more calm in her environment. Not bad for her first time. We will revisit Hollywood again, in hopes of a more better experience.

Training Summary: Sammie loves the place command. This command is great for her because it challenges her mind to stay put rather than be all over the place. She has improved so much on heel. I only apply leash pressure if needed to guide her. She has come so far, from pulling on a harness to now simply walking with a slip lead!

Training Summary: Sammie does really well at parks, hiking trails, and stores like Lowe’s. She is no longer whining when in public and can be put on command when in public. At Lowe’s she can be timid of the shopping carts. No matter how anxious she is, it’s important to always put her on a command to redirect that energy. We continue to socialize her to new environments daily!

Training Summary: A great day for Sammie, she got to socialize with her training partner Scooby the Labrador! The two make a great duo, they can walk together on leash and share spaces. It’s important to make sure both dogs are in a calm state before having them meet. Keep up the hard work Sammie!

Training Summary: We took Sammie to the Venice Boardwalk today! She was a round a ton of people, bikes, skateboards, and scooters. Skateboards, if they’re close will still make her skittish. On leash she was able to perform all commands. We can walk throughout the boardwalk without her anxiety and wanting to meet everyone. She loves to go out in public!
