Maximus's Story: What Happens Six Months After the Training Ends

Anyone can hand you a well-behaved dog on pickup day. The question worth asking is what the dog looks like half a year later.

  • Maximus
  • Off-leash walks
  • Ongoing support
  • Six months on

Where Maximus started

This story is a little different from the others, because his owner did not write about the before picture. She wrote about what happened afterwards, which turns out to be the more useful review.

What we know is that Maximus completed a program with us, and that six months later she describes him as having "grown into such a well-behaved, confident pup."

The training journey

The training ended, and then it did not really end. In her words, the team "continue to check in, offer helpful refreshers, and provide ongoing support."

That is deliberate, and it is the least glamorous part of what we do. Training is a skill, and skills decay. Every dog drifts, every owner gets busy, and a habit that was solid in March gets loose by August unless somebody notices. A check-in call is how it gets noticed early, while it is still a five-minute fix.

What actually changed

  • Off-leash walks are enjoyable. Her phrase: something "we both truly enjoy."
  • He is confident. Not just compliant, which is a different thing.
  • It held. Six months on, and she calls the results "lasting results, not just short-term fixes."
  • Refreshers were there when wanted. Offered, not sold again.

★★★★★

“I can’t say enough great things about this training facility and the team behind it. Even 6 months after Maximus completed his training, they continue to check in, offer helpful refreshers, and provide ongoing support, it really shows how much they care about both the dogs and their owners. Maximus has grown into such a well-behaved, confident pup, and our off-leash walks have become something we both truly enjoy. The training gave us lasting results, not just short-term fixes, and that’s made all the difference.”

What it changed at home

An off-leash walk that both ends of the leash enjoy is a strange thing to describe as life-changing until you have had the other kind. A dog you dread walking gets walked less, which makes him worse, which makes you dread it more.

Breaking that loop is most of what our customers are actually buying.

Why Maximus's story matters to us

Her last paragraph is the reason we picked this review out of eighty-five. She recommends looking for "a place that stands by their work and genuinely invests in your dog's long-term success."

That is a fair test to put any trainer to, including us. Ask what happens after the program. Ask whether refreshers cost anything. Ask whether anybody will pick up the phone in six months. Off Leash K9 Training Bakersfield is happy to answer all three before you book anything.

Before and after

Six months after Maximus finished his program, his owner reports that the team still checks in and offers refreshers, and that their off-leash walks are something they both enjoy. Lasting results, in her words, not short-term fixes.

If you want off-leash reliability, the programs that build it are Basic Obedience for lessons and the 2 Week Board and Train for full-time work. There is also the AKC Canine Good Citizen for a dog ready to be tested properly. Everything is listed on our plans and pricing page.
