Where Chloe started

Chloe is a one-year-old Pit Bull. When her family brought her to us, walks were a fight: pulling on the leash and barking at people and other dogs. Getting her to respond took, in her owner's words, asking "umpteen times."

None of that is unusual at a year old. It is the age where a strong young dog has figured out what works for her, and nobody has yet shown her a better option.

The training journey

Chloe's family chose private lessons: weekly sessions with Jesse and our team, with the family doing the practice at home in between.

They noticed a difference early. "From the first day we saw small subtle changes," her owner wrote. First Chloe went into her kennel without a fuss. Then she started "listening to commands on the first try instead of the fifth."

Her owner was also honest about the other half of the deal: the results depend on keeping up with the training outside the weekly meets. That is exactly right, and it is the way lessons are meant to work. We teach the owner, and the owner trains the dog every day.

What actually changed

  • Kenneling is easy. She goes in without an issue.
  • Commands land the first time. Not the fifth.
  • Walks became a breeze. By week three: no more pulling, no more barking at people or other dogs.
  • She holds a sit. By week five, with nobody holding her leash or repeating the command.

★★★★★

“From the first day we saw small subtle changes in our 1 year old Pit. First she would go into the kennel without issue, then it was her listening to commands on the first try instead of the fifth. After week 3 walks became a BREEZE. No more pulling or barking at people/ other dogs. By week 5 she was able to stay in a sit without myself or my husband holding her leash or commanding her umpteen times to do so. After completing the training program for Chloe it’s truly a night and day difference. And we couldn’t be more grateful to Jesse and Miguel for their help!”

What it changed at home

Her family's summary was simple: "truly a night and day difference."

A calm walk sounds like a small thing until you have not had one for a year. It is the difference between a dog who goes everywhere with the family and a dog who stays home because taking her is too much work.

Why Chloe's story matters to us

Pit Bulls get judged on sight, which makes a well-mannered one the best advertisement the breed has. A dog who walks past people and other dogs quietly on a loose leash changes minds on every walk.

Chloe's story is also a good picture of what the lesson track at Off Leash K9 Training Bakersfield looks like when a family does its part. Weekly sessions, practice in between, and a clear change by the end.

Before and after

Chloe, a one-year-old Pit Bull, pulled on the leash and barked at people and dogs. After five weeks of private lessons she walks calmly, answers commands the first time and holds a sit on her own.

Chloe's family used our lesson track. Basic Obedience is five private lessons on the core commands plus loose-leash walking. If you would rather a trainer did the daily work, the 2 Week Board and Train is the full-time option. Prices for both are on our plans and pricing page.
