Today’s session with Drew involved introducing all five basic commands. Additionally, efforts were made to establish a connection and build a relationship. Notably, Drew tends to submit and go into a down position, prompting a focus on boosting his confidence and encouraging him to keep his head up during training.

Drew is undergoing significant growth in confidence and independence as a pup. Notably, he now maintains a more upright posture when sitting, displaying a newfound assurance. In addition, during heel exercises, Drew has transitioned from frequently sniffing the ground to being more actively engaged in the walk, showcasing his evolving independence and focus.

The “place” command has proven to be a valuable tool in boosting Drew’s confidence while simultaneously enhancing his overall ability and balance. Beyond formal training sessions, I extend the utility of the “place” command by incorporating his doggy bed or place cot strategically throughout the house, providing him with an elevated space akin to his own “chair.” Notably, Drew has shown significant improvement in his recall, now able to respond to a sit or down command even when I am not in immediate proximity. This progress underscores his growing proficiency and independence in following commands.

Today marked an exceptionally successful training session for Drew at Lowe’s. While he initially displayed some skittishness upon hearing the noise of metal carts, we persisted in working through those nerves, fostering a positive learning experience. Despite the initial apprehension, Drew successfully executed all of his commands during the session at Lowe’s. This progress is a testament to his resilience and willingness to overcome challenges. Kudos to Drew for a job well done, and let’s continue the great work!

The second round of Lowe’s went a lot more smoothly. He was performing all his commands effortlessly, unfazed by carts passing him by. His confidence and independence continue to improve with each outing, reflecting his growing self-assurance.

Training Highlights:
Drew faced numerous distractions during our visit to the Santa Monica Boardwalk today, encountering a multitude of bikes, scooters, and skateboards. While he did become momentarily spooked by the loud skateboards, we were able to quickly reassure him and restore his calm demeanor. Overall, it was a successful first outing to the beach, providing valuable exposure to various stimuli for Drew’s ongoing training and development.

Drew’s manners around other pups are improving significantly. He has developed a close friendship with his training mate, Kodi, an Australian Shepherd. Together, they demonstrated excellent obedience by staying on command during their interaction. Socializing Drew with calm and safe dogs like Kodi is essential for his continued development and positive experiences with other canine companions. This progress reflects Drew’s growing confidence and ability to engage positively in social situations with his furry friends.
