Chimi | Maltese mix | Bakersfield, California
Meet Chimi, the delightful Maltese mix hailing from Bakersfield, California, who is joining us for our two-week board and train program. Chimi has a tendency to become fear aggressive when she’s feeling anxious; she may nip at other dogs encroaching on her space and bark at unfamiliar people from a distance, often seeking refuge behind her owner. Despite her fearfulness, Chimi is incredibly loyal and enjoys cuddling and playing with her family. To help her thrive, Chimi needs extensive socialization, and we’re excited to support her on this journey. Stay tuned for updates on her remarkable transformation!

Training Highlights:
Today, we introduced Chimmy to leash pressure and all five of her basic commands. While she was a bit reactive toward other dogs at the park, we are reinforcing her commands and gradually socializing her to public environments. As she becomes more comfortable, we will slowly increase her exposure to distractions. Overall, it was a great first training day—she’s settling in really well.

Today, we trained at the park, and Chimi is settling in really well. Although she still shows some reactivity to other dogs, she just needs more socialization and exposure to neutral dogs. She’s making great progress with her sit and place commands and is consistently walking on my left side.

Training Highlights:
Today, we worked on training with dog distractions, exposing Chimi to a neutral dog. She was a bit tense and uncomfortable, but this was an improvement compared to her previous reaction when she barked at my dog, Rhapsody. This kind of stress will help Chimi build positive associations with other dogs.

We continue to socialize Chimi with dogs of all sizes, which is helping build her confidence. She’s making great progress, barking less and walking calmly on leash by my left side. Neutral dogs are particularly beneficial in her development.

We’re continuing to reinforce commands with Chimi, and she’s doing really well around new dogs. Her walking has improved, and she’s barking less. We’ll keep increasing the level of distractions to further her progress.

Today, we took our training to Hollywood Blvd, where Chimi initially felt overwhelmed by the large crowds. However, using the place command, she was able to channel her fearful energy into something more proactive. It’s not about how we start, but how we finish, and Chimi finished strong—great work, girl!

Training Highlights:
On Day 2 of training on Hollywood Blvd, she showed much more confidence. Although she did bark at a Husky, she didn’t lunge, which was a great improvement. After the initial bark, we corrected and redirected her to a command as the Husky passed by. She’s gaining confidence day by day. Keep up the great work, girl!

Another day of training on Hollywood Blvd, and she’s making great strides! Commands are coming much easier, she’s no longer pulling on the leash, and her responsiveness is improving with every session.
