Local dog training you can trust

Off Leash K9 Training is the highest-rated dog training company serving the San Fernando Valley and the San Fernando Valley.

Sherman Oaks, Encino, Van Nuys, Woodland Hills, Northridge, Studio City, Granada Hills — the Valley is dense, busy and full of dogs, and a dog that is fine on your own street can be a completely different animal on Ventura Boulevard. Our board and train programs and private obedience lessons are built for that kind of environment. Training happens at our Bakersfield facility, about 100 miles north on Interstate 5, and Valley owners come to us for the immersive programs where the drive is a drop-off rather than a weekly trip.

Why it matters

Why professional training is essential for San Fernando Valley dog owners

Behavior modification

Address jumping, pulling, barking, anxiety, and reactivity at the root, not just the symptom.

Safety & control

A dog that listens the first time is a safer dog around traffic, livestock, wildlife, and people.

Stronger bond

Clear communication builds trust, so your dog looks to you for direction instead of guessing.

Skills that transfer

We hand the training over to you at pickup, so the obedience keeps working at home.

Family harmony

A calm, well-mannered dog means a calmer home for kids, guests, and other pets alike.

What we offer

Our dog training programs for San Fernando Valley dogs

Every program runs out of our Bakersfield facility, by appointment. Here is how they break down.

Obedience lessons

Private, one-on-one sessions with a professional trainer. You are in the room for all of it, so the training goes home with you.

  • Come, sit, down, place, heel and off
  • Loose-leash walking and manners
  • Reward-based marker track for young dogs

Board & train

Our signature immersive program. Your dog stays and trains with a trainer, then you get a turnover session before they come home.

  • One, two and three-week stays
  • Off-leash reliability around distractions
  • Owner turnover session at pickup

Specialized programs

Focused help for the problems a general obedience program does not solve on its own.

Training in San Fernando Valley

Built for how San Fernando Valley dogs actually live

The Valley gives a dog more to react to per city block than almost anywhere else we train for. Delivery vans, scooters, other dogs on short leads, apartment corridors, a patio table two feet from the sidewalk.

So the goal is not a dog that can sit in a quiet living room. It is a dog that holds a place command while a stranger walks past the table, walks on a loose leash down a crowded stretch of Ventura Boulevard, and comes back the first time you call at the Sepulveda Basin off-leash park with thirty other dogs running. That last one is a board and train outcome — it is not something a few lessons will hand you.

It matters just as much for the small stuff. A dog that settles when the doorbell goes, does not bolt through an apartment door, and can be walked by whoever in the house is free that evening.

Where your dog will shine

  • Sepulveda Basin Off-Leash Dog Park, Encino
  • Lake Balboa and Anthony C. Beilenson Park
  • Woodley Park, Van Nuys
  • Ventura Boulevard on a Saturday
  • Apartment lobbies and elevators

Frequently asked questions

How far is your facility from the San Fernando Valley?

Our facility is at 1450 Olive Dr A in Bakersfield, about 100 miles north on Interstate 5. For a board and train that is one drive up at drop-off and one at pickup, which is how most Valley clients do it.

Do you train in my home or my apartment?

No. We are a facility, by appointment. All training happens at our Bakersfield location, and the consultation before it happens over the phone.

How young can my puppy start?

From twelve weeks, provided the puppy has had two sets of vaccines. In a place as busy as the Valley the early socialization window matters, so there is no reason to wait until six months. Our puppy programs cover it. E-collar obedience is separate and starts at five months at the earliest.

Can you help with an aggressive or reactive dog?

Yes. Leash reactivity is the single most common thing Valley owners call us about, and there is a dedicated aggressive dog training program for it. We will ask you exactly what the dog does and when, on the phone, before recommending anything.

My dog is fine at home and impossible on the street. Is that normal?

Very. A dog that has never had to hold a command around real distraction has not actually learned it yet — it has learned it in an empty room. The whole point of the immersive board and train programs is proofing those commands against distraction until they hold.
