Local dog training you can trust

Off Leash K9 Training is the highest-rated dog training company serving Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley.

From Valencia and Saugus to Canyon Country, Newhall and Stevenson Ranch, we work with Santa Clarita Valley owners who want a dog they can actually take places. Our board and train programs and private obedience lessons run out of our Bakersfield facility, roughly 80 miles north on Interstate 5, and Santa Clarita families make that drive regularly — a board and train is a drop-off and a pickup, not a weekly commute. Every program and price is listed on our plans and pricing page.

Why it matters

Why professional training is essential for Santa Clarita dog owners

Behavior modification

Address jumping, pulling, barking, anxiety, and reactivity at the root, not just the symptom.

Safety & control

A dog that listens the first time is a safer dog around traffic, livestock, wildlife, and people.

Stronger bond

Clear communication builds trust, so your dog looks to you for direction instead of guessing.

Skills that transfer

We hand the training over to you at pickup, so the obedience keeps working at home.

Family harmony

A calm, well-mannered dog means a calmer home for kids, guests, and other pets alike.

What we offer

Our dog training programs for Santa Clarita dogs

Every program runs out of our Bakersfield facility, by appointment. Here is how they break down.

Obedience lessons

Private, one-on-one sessions with a professional trainer. You are in the room for all of it, so the training goes home with you.

  • Come, sit, down, place, heel and off
  • Loose-leash walking and manners
  • Reward-based marker track for young dogs

Board & train

Our signature immersive program. Your dog stays and trains with a trainer, then you get a turnover session before they come home.

  • One, two and three-week stays
  • Off-leash reliability around distractions
  • Owner turnover session at pickup

Specialized programs

Focused help for the problems a general obedience program does not solve on its own.

Training in Santa Clarita

Built for how Santa Clarita dogs actually live

Santa Clarita is a walking valley. More than a hundred miles of paseos and trails thread between the neighborhoods, which is wonderful until you are on one holding a leash with both hands while a dog you love drags you past a cyclist.

That is the environment we train for. Loose-leash walking that survives a busy paseo on a Saturday morning, a recall that works at Central Park when there are twenty other dogs in sight, and enough structure that Old Town Newhall on a weekend is a pleasant outing instead of a wrestling match. Off-leash reliability — the kind you see in our board and train videos — comes out of the immersive programs, not out of a handful of lessons.

There is a longer history here than most people expect. Before opening the Bakersfield location, owner Jesse Medina worked full time at Cesar Millan's Dog Psychology Center in Santa Clarita, teaching socialization and basic obedience classes. This valley is not a new market to us.

Where your dog will shine

  • Central Bark dog park at Central Park
  • Five Barks at Golden Valley Park
  • Placerita Canyon State Park, Newhall
  • The Santa Clarita paseo and trail network
  • Old Town Newhall

Who you will be working with

Owner Jesse Medina graduated with honors from ABC College, then volunteered and later worked full time at Cesar Millan's Dog Psychology Center in Santa Clarita, where he taught socialization, basic obedience, search and rescue, and sheep herding. He has also volunteered with Marley's Mutts Pawsitive Change Prison Program, which pairs shelter dogs with inmates in California state prisons.

He runs the Bakersfield facility today, and he or one of his trainers is the person you will actually meet at your consultation.

What our clients say

“Off Leash Bakersfield did an amazing job with my 7 month old Belgium Malinois Theo. Jesse was great and personable through the process. Theo went from leash pulling to completely off leash.”

KyleVerified Google review

“Really happy with the results with my dog Nala. I worked with Jesse and Miguel and they gave me the proper tools I needed to have a well behaved and happy dog. I took my dog to Home Depot and people were so impressed with her behavior they asked me how did I do it.”

Anthony GuerreroVerified Google review

“I owe my Doberman's life to this company and Jesse. I'm glad that such a company exists in Bakersfield. They are highly skilled in their work, polite, and genuinely care about their customers and their dogs.”

Frequently asked questions

How far is your facility from Santa Clarita?

Our facility is at 1450 Olive Dr A in Bakersfield, roughly 80 miles north on Interstate 5 over the Grapevine. For a board and train that is one drive up and one drive back, which is why most of our Santa Clarita clients choose that route.

Do you come to my house in Santa Clarita?

No. We are a facility, by appointment — all training happens at our Bakersfield location, and your consultation happens over the phone first so nobody drives anywhere before there is a plan.

How young can my puppy start?

Twelve weeks, once the puppy has had two sets of vaccines. Everything at that age is reward-based marker work and socialization — see our puppy programs. The five-month figure you may have read on our site is a different thing: that is when e-collar obedience can begin, not when training can.

Can you help with an aggressive or reactive dog?

Yes — it is a large part of what we do, and there is a dedicated aggressive dog training program for it. Because of the drive, most Santa Clarita cases go the board and train route so the dog gets full-time work rather than an hour a week.

Which programs do Santa Clarita owners usually pick?

Board and train, most of the time, because the distance makes weekly lessons impractical. Owners who want to do the work themselves take the private obedience lessons and space them out. Every option and price is on our plans and pricing page.
