MIKLO | HUSKY MIX | BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA
Meet Miklo, our newest board and train pup! He’s a handsome husky mix who just joined us for our two-week program. Like many huskies, Miklo has a big personality and plenty of energy to go along with it. Some of his main struggles right now are walking politely on leash, coming when called, and resisting his natural “escape artist” tendencies.
Despite those challenges, Miklo is a very sweet dog. He does wonderfully with his family, loves being around kids, and feels comfortable in his home environment. Our goal over the next two weeks will be to tighten up his leash manners, build a reliable recall, and help him understand boundaries so his family can trust him both at home and out in the real world.
We’re excited to share his progress—stay tuned for Miklo’s transformation!

The first night was a big success, giving him the chance to decompress and adjust to his new environment. On the leash, he tends to pull quite a bit, so we’ve already started working on building better leash manners by guiding him into position and reinforcing with praise whenever he makes the right choice. He’s responding well to the structure and is already beginning to settle in nicely, which shows he’s ready to learn and grow. Great work, buddy—this is just the start of his transformation.

Continuing to build Miklo’s confidence has been the main focus, and today we really started to see some great progress. His down commands came along much smoother, showing that he’s starting to understand and trust the process more with each session. Every success adds to his confidence, and it’s clear he’s enjoying the structure and clarity of training. One command he especially loves is “place,” where he settles in with focus and pride—it’s quickly becoming one of his strongest skills. The consistency and effort are paying off, and with each step forward Miklo is proving just how capable he is. Keep up the great work, buddy!

We’re making steady progress with him, and it’s starting to show in his consistency. He’s now able to extend both his sit and down commands, holding them for longer periods of time compared to when we first started. While he still needs a bit of leash guidance to help him stay on task during commands, the improvement is clear with each session. His confidence continues to build with every repetition, and that growth is laying a strong foundation for more reliable obedience moving forward.

From mastering his commands at home, it’s now time to take the training to the next level out in the neighborhood. He’s learning to walk consistently on my left side, whether we’re walking, jogging, or even running together, building that discipline and focus no matter the pace. While he’s showing steady progress with this transition, we’re still putting in the work to sharpen that down command, ensuring he can hold it with confidence in more distracting environments.

Each session is building on the last, and Miklo continues to prove just how capable he is when given clear structure and consistency.

The crate and Miklo haven’t exactly been best friends, but we’ve been working on creating a positive association with it by using things he loves—especially his food—as a way to motivate and reward him. While he’s still struggling a bit with the down command, he’s doing really well with the rest of his obedience work and is showing great progress overall. Miklo does have a stubborn side, but with consistency, patience, and clear follow-through, he’s improving every day and building more confidence in the process.

Here’s a more substantial version of that update:
We’ve been working diligently on Miklo’s down command, and his progress is starting to show with more consistency each session. Today was an exciting day for him because he got to meet a new pup, Penelope. Socialization is just as important as obedience, so introducing Miklo to both big and small dogs helps him build confidence, learn proper manners, and adapt to different play styles. The goal is to create a well-rounded dog who not only listens to commands but can also remain calm and respectful around other dogs of all sizes.

Miklo had another solid day of training out in the real world, where he continues to gain confidence and exposure to new environments. While he can still be a little flighty when it comes to sudden, loud noises like forklifts or other heavy machinery, he’s showing good progress in maintaining his composure. Around people and kids, he does an excellent job staying calm and social, which is a big win for him. The down command is still a bit of a challenge, as he can be stubborn at times and needs some extra leash guidance to follow through, but overall he’s demonstrating steady improvement. Today was another step forward in building his reliability and focus in everyday situations.

Training Highlights:
Miklo is really starting to come together with his training and is completing all of his commands with consistency. His biggest challenge continues to be the down command—he’s a strong-willed pup who definitely prefers doing things his own way. That said, we’ve been seeing steady improvement every single day, especially when practicing around distractions like other dogs and in public settings where it’s harder to stay focused. He still needs a bit of extra guidance to hold his down, but the progress he’s making shows that he’s learning and adapting quickly. We’ll keep pushing forward, and with this momentum, Miklo is well on his way—awesome work, dude!
