BELLE | GIANT SCHNAUZER | BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA
Say hello to Belle, a 6-month-old Giant Schnauzer with a whole lot of personality and just as much potential. Belle is full of love for her family and has a sweet, affectionate side—but like many adolescent pups, she’s currently navigating some behavioral bumps in the road.
Belle tends to pull heavily on the leash, making walks more of a workout than a relaxing outing. At home, she’s started to show some possessive behavior around her smaller dog sibling. She’s also taken to eating just about everything she can find—including the drywall! Add in some playful nipping, and it’s clear Belle needs some structure and guidance to help her thrive.
Despite these challenges, Belle is a total love bug and is deeply bonded to her family. She just needs the right tools, consistent leadership, and positive experiences to become her best self.
She’s now joining us for our two-week board and train program, where we’ll work on leash manners, boundaries, impulse control, and building her confidence in a healthy, constructive way.
Stay tuned as we document Belle’s journey and celebrate her progress—we can’t wait to share her transformation with you!

The first night was a success! She’s a smart girl with a great attitude and a strong drive to work, which made our initial training session really smooth. Today, we laid the foundation by introducing all five core commands: heel, sit, down, come, and place. She picked up on each one quickly and showed a lot of focus and enthusiasm throughout the session. It’s clear she’s eager to learn and ready to take on the work ahead.

We are continuing to reinforce commands and promote calm behavior, with a strong focus on mental stimulation. While she clearly has the physical capabilities, our goal now is to challenge her mind and help her develop more balanced, controlled energy. By consistently practicing obedience and encouraging a calm state of mind, we’re working to strengthen her impulse control and overall responsiveness. This approach not only helps improve her behavior but also ensures she can channel her energy in a more thoughtful and productive way.

Today, I introduced Big Momma Belle to the treadmill for the first time, even as we’re still in the early stages of building our relationship. While she’s still learning to trust and settle into this new routine, the treadmill offers a structured challenge that can actually help her grow. It’s not just about physical exercise—it’s about mental resilience. Navigating the movement and rhythm of the treadmill, especially with the added noise and unfamiliarity, pushes Belle to stay focused and present. This process, though tough at times, is a confidence builder. The controlled pace helps redirect her energy and attention away from the distractions around her, allowing her to work through uncertainty in a safe and guided way. Each step forward is progress, and I’m proud of her for rising to the challenge.

Belle is making significant progress in her training, especially with her heel work. She now consistently walks on my left side, demonstrating improved focus and responsiveness during our walks. Her ability to hold the sit command for longer durations has also greatly improved, showing increased patience and self-control. In addition to mastering these obedience skills, Belle is beginning to display a much calmer energy overall, which is helping her stay more composed and attentive in a variety of situations. Her growth has been steady and impressive, and she’s on the right path toward becoming a well-mannered and balanced dog.

Training Highlights :
Commands are becoming noticeably easier for her to follow, showing steady progress in her training. While she still struggles a bit with the “down” command, we’ve been using leash guidance to help her better understand and comply. One of the most encouraging signs of her improvement is her growing ability to ignore distractions, such as barking dogs—a challenge that previously drew her attention. This increased focus and responsiveness indicate that she’s becoming more confident and reliable, and she’s showing signs of being ready to handle more real-world situations with greater composure and control.

Training Highlights:
Putting on the leash and collar has definitely improved—it’s still a work in progress, but the difference is noticeable. What used to feel like a full-on wrestling match is now a much smoother, less chaotic process. The key has been staying calm, waiting for her to settle before moving forward, and always following through with the routine. By being consistent and patient, she’s learning that calm behavior gets her what she wants. As a way to reward her at the end, I like to say “break,” which signals that she can let loose and go crazy for a moment—turning the whole experience into something positive rather than stressful.

Belle is making steady progress with her obedience training and continues to show daily improvement. While she still needs some guidance on her “down” command, she is now able to hold the position for a longer period of time, demonstrating increased focus and impulse control. Her responsiveness to commands overall has improved significantly, and she is becoming more consistent with following through. Additionally, Belle’s heel has become much more manageable—she now walks calmly on my left side with fewer corrections needed, showing that she is beginning to understand and respect proper leash manners.

Things are really starting to come together, especially with recall—it’s been a total game changer. Being able to call her away from distractions, whether it’s other dogs or just general chaos around the house, has made a huge difference in our day-to-day routine. It’s not just about saying the command, though—what’s really key is following through every single time. That consistency builds trust and reinforces that recall isn’t optional. We’re seeing more confidence and responsiveness as a result, and it’s been rewarding to watch the progress unfold.
